Eugenia Kim’s newest book is slated to hit the shelves in late 2018, published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (oddly enough, one of my former employers back in the day!). Eugenia wanted to update both the design and technology of not just her website, but her digital presence which includes Twitter and Facebook.
A graphic designer herself in addition to an accomplished author, Eugenia had definite ideas about her branding based on graphic designs she created in the past, along with unique images she possessed of her family and Korea itself, her family’s homeland. With her second novel also exploring her family’s rich connection to Korea, I felt it necessary to build off the beautiful visuals she already had.
Eugenia’s website design was built around the “celadon” color, with a few different celadon hues being used throughout the site, including in a new favicon. SEO also played a key role in the development of her site, including social preview metadata, alt text for her many visuals, and attention paid to important content keywords on-page.
The result was a look of Asian elegance with a focus on connecting readers to numerous bookselling platforms. After all, sales are important!
